The Sawan Foundation was established in 2014 by Gurmej Sandhu, PhD to serve charitable, scientific & educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
Foundation Focus
- Promote global understanding on matters, such as, education institutions, economic development & socioeconomic conditions with an emphasis on education, economic & cultural relations between the US & India
- Encourage development of biotechnology & other technologies to reduce air and water pollution, increase agricultural production & improve the human living condition
- Support educational programs sponsored by universities & other institutions that will promote the charitable, scientific & educational objectives of the corporation
- Make grants that promote the charitable, scientific & educational objectives of the corporation to universities & other organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 503(c)(3) of the Code; and to foreign organizations not qualified under Section 503(c)(3) of the Code, provided grants to such foreign organizations are treated as qualifying distributions for purposes of Section 4942 of the Code and not as taxable expenditures for purposes of Section 4945 of the Code
